Košice’s historical city hall will present the so called Vagina Monologues; an episodic play written by American playwright Eve Ensler. The performance is staged across the world around Valentine’s Day as part of international V-Day movement which has been active for 15 years.
“The V letter can mean vagina, victory, or even Valentine”, said Jana Ivanecká, a journalist and representative of the civic association A Centrum Košice, which organises the play. She also added that the now famous Vagina Monologues was conceived in the wake of Eve Ensler's talks with more than 200 women and has become a symbol of a movement to stop violence against girls and women.
“Every third woman in the world–that's more than a billion females–has experienced physical or sexual abuse. On February 14, 2013, the ground was shaken by one billion people in 207 countries who, in the form of a dance, demanded a stop to the violence perpetrated against women and girls”, said V-Day campaign coordinator Dana Madejová about the V-Day project, adding that “The dance is to the song Break the Chain with a specific choreography”. The performance directed by Monika Neksová will be staged at Košice’s historical city hall at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 15.
