Poll: Only half of Slovaks happy with their jobs

Every second employee in Slovakia is unhappy with their job, with low pay leading the list of negatives according to a survey performed by the job site Profesia.sk. Approximately 11 percent of all respondents are completely dissatisfied with their jobs.

The largest share of satisfied people are found to be working in telecommunications, followed by upper-level management, customer support, marketing, advertising, and public relations, while typically living in the Bratislava, Žilina, and Nitra regions. “There's a clear link between remuneration and one's satisfaction with their job. The sectors above are ranked among the best-paying. Conversely, two-thirds of dissatisfied people labelled their low salary as the chief reason for their negative feeling”, said Profesia's Director Ivana Molnárová.

At the bottom half of the sectors where job satisfaction is low, the textile industry had a 100-percent share of unhappy employees. This is followed by mining and metallurgy, journalism, printing and media, and the wood-processing industry.
