69 members of the Slovak Olympic representation team will march around the Fišt stadium at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games on Friday, 7th February. The flag bearer of the Slovak delegation will be hockey player Zdeno Chára.
Ahead of the Olympics experts of the PwC company estimate that Slovakia will gain three medals in Sochi. They based their prediction on the performance of the country in the past three Winter Olympic Games, also taking into consideration the GDP of the country, the number of skiing resorts per inhabitants as well as peculiarities of the given country and it’s tradition in winter sports. According to them Slovakia could be in 19th place in the amount of medals won. The games are to start on Friday, 7th February.
Altogether 44 heads of states should take part at the opening ceremony of the XXII. Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, with the USA, French and German Presidents and the British Prime Minister choosing not to participate. Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák is to leave to Sochi on Friday, participating at the event and supporting Slovak sportsmen and women. During his visit, the Minister will open the so called Slovak Point at the station in Adler. Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič is to depart for Sochi at the end of next week.
