The lack of workers might be a big topic even in 2019, wrote the TASR press agency, pointing to the opinions of analysts on Sunday. According to them, the slowdown of the economy will continuously decrease employers' requirements on the workforce. "The job market will calm down, especially in the east and south of central Slovakia," said Ľubomír Koršňák, an analyst from UniCredit Bank, adding that he does not rule out a temporary rise in unemployment in 2020.
On the contrary, according to Koršňák, western Slovakia will continue to experience a lack of workforce with employers solving the situation by importing workers from abroad. Moreover, Koršňák expects the number of foreign workers in Slovakia to stabilize.
Analysts also believe that shortage of people on the job market will continue to fuel the growth of salaries. Lucia Dovalová of the Poštová banka expects a similar pace in the increase of incomes as in 2018 - above 6%. Moreover, according to Koršňák, the 10% salary hike in the public sector as of January could speed up the growth to 7%.
"Income should grow especially in fields experiencing a lack of workers. Real income should also grow in 2019, however not as quickly as nominal income," said Dovalová.
