We can't close our eyes to child abuse, so it will begin legislative preparations for the setting-up of the office of children's ombudsman, Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry State Secretary Jozef Burian said on Slovak Radio's politics discussion programme 'Sobotne dialogy' (Saturday Dialogues).
The minister reacted to a nation-wide survey, according to which around 20 percent of children in Slovakia are abused, either physically or mentally. "We should neither overestimate, nor underestimate these results, however", he said, adding that the Government has already made some progress in the sphere. "We've created a National Co-ordination Framework for Dealing with Child Abuse. I believe that we already have something to praise", said Burian. In addition, via social workers, the state should also monitor persons with an inclination to violence who have been released from prisons. However, these social workers will be granted the power to enter homes only with judicial permits.
