The Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs welcomes the approval of the draft agreement on Brexit passed on Wednesday in the UK. The Cabinet of Theresa May approved a 585-page provisional agreement on Britain's departure from the EU. This agreement will now be analyzed by the 27 EU Member States, whose representatives shall meet on 25 November at the extraordinary summit on Brexit. According to the Slovak diplomacy, the proposed document is the best scenario for both parties involved, as well as their citizens and businesses.
"It is a special interest of the Slovak Republic to protect the rights of our citizens living in the United Kingdom, which will be preserved even after the United Kingdom's exit from the EU on 29 March 2019. It is also very positive that the agreement foresees a two-year transitional period during which the UK will remain part of the internal market and customs union," reads the statement of the Slovak Foreign Affairs ministry, adding that they hope for continued good bilateral relations with the UK.
Even though Slovak diplomacy is satisfied with the draft Bexit agreement, Theresa May's Cabinet has suffered because of this agreement. During Thursday's Cabinet meeting, several ministers including the Brexit minister Dominic Raab and the Minister of State for Northern Ireland, Shailesh Vara, handed in their resignation.
