Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák met with the Georgian Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Aleksi Petriashvili on Tuesday to talk on the subject of aligning Georgia closer to the European Union.
“Slovakia is ready to aid you and share our experiences with the EU integration process”, said Lajčák who also commended Georgia’s participation in recent military operations in Afghanistan, where the country positioned 1,560 soldiers and supported NATO operations. September 2014 will see the Alliance Summit, whereby another qualitative step should bring Georgia closer to NATO. Lajčák praised the continuity in Georgia’s foreign affairs and its EU integration ambitions. On behalf of the Slovak Republic, Lajčák expressed full support for all efforts to conclude an EU Association Agreement and a comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement with Georgia by the end of August 2014. In regards to bilateral relations, both ministers declared a strong interest in their continued development, with determination demonstrated in reciprocal official visits by both foreign affairs ministers and the fact that Slovakia is due to open a representative office in Tbilisi in April 2014.
