The project of finishing the third and fourth blocks of the Mochovce (Nitra region) nuclear power plant is secured in financial terms. The energy utility Slovenské elektrárne (SE) on August 31 managed to finalise its credit contracts until 2025, the company's general director Branislav Strýček told the parliamentary economy committee on Thursday. According to Strýček, the maturity of loans with commercial banks has been extended to 2025, as well as securing a €700-million loan from shareholder Slovak Power Holding, which is a joint venture between Enel and EPH. Altogether, the construction budget is finalised for 5.4 billion euro.
Slovenské elektrárne began the construction project on the third and fourth blocks in Mochovce back in 2008. According to the latest schedule estimates, the third block should start producing electricity next year already. The opposition parties are, however, sceptical as to whether both the deadline and the budget estimate will be met. According to the analyst Martin Dargaj from the vEnergetike web portal, despite the concerns of the opposition, the finalising of the power plant construction is necessary and at this moment, there is no way back. If the completion fails, then the energy utility Slovenské elektrárne will go out of business.
