After some 5 years the Slovak police had now more information on the scandal case surrounding the sale of emission quotas. The Slovak Environmental Ministry sold 15 million tons of emission quotas AAU for approximately €75 million to a non-reputable company – which we refer to as a “garage company”, called Interblue Group.
Price per tonne in this case was €5.05, which critics say was way too low and that the state lost some €47 million on this transaction. An investigation into the matter for suspected money laundering was launched; however in autumn of 2013 it was stopped as the police did not find enough evidence that the state sold emissions at a disadvantageous price. Despite the fact that they had three witnesses who confirmed this, the investigators wanted to be able to compare the price to other emission contracts, that is contracts of other states, reads an article of the SME daily. Now, the police have more information on the matter from special Swiss Investigators. Spokesperson of the Police Presidium Andrea Dobiášová confirmed that they did receive copies of the bank transfers. These could clearly show who benefited from this sale, claims the daily SME.
Ľubomír Galko, deputy of the Freedom and Solidarity party requested that the police confirm the existence of such documents. Presidential candidate Andrej Kiska joined him and called on the Prime Minister to start investigating the emissions case. For now the Police are not revealing any information on the acquired data from the Swiss side. Prime Minister Fico claims he will make the information public but did not specify when he will do so.
