The Slovak road cyclist, currently three consecutive time World Champion Peter Sagan won the overall title of the best sprinter, who wears the green jersey, at the 105th edition of Tour de France on Sunday. The rider of the German Bora-Hansgrohe team came eighth in the last stage 21 finishing in Paris.
Welsh rider Geraint Thomas from the British Sky Team became the overall winner of this year's edition, wearing the yellow jersey. The polka dot jersey for the best climber went to French cyclist Julian Alaphilippe and another Frenchman, Pierre Latour, won the white jersey for the best rider under 25 years of age.
Sagan earned 477 points, while the second Norwegian Alexander Kristoff collected 246. As well as the title of best sprinter he notched three stage victories this year. The 28-year old Slovak cyclist also posted the same number of victories in 2012 and 2016, thus totalling at 11 the number of his victories in cycling's most prestigious race.
For Sagan, this was his sixth green jersey and he thus equalled the record of German Erik Zabel, who earned his six back-to-back wins between 1996 and 2001. The Slovak won the first five titles in five consecutive editions from 2012 to 2016. In 2017 he was controversially disqualified after a crash with Mark Cavendish.
