The public have evaluated the Slovak government with bad grades, says the Institute for Public Affairs based on the results of a November public opinion poll on current social and political issues.
Respondents also gave their opinions on the situation in society since the government of Robert Fico took power in 2012. “Only a marginal proportion of respondents, ranging from 4-9 percent, answered that the situation has improved”, in 11 areas monitored by the survey, informed Zora Bútorová of the Institute. Moreover, the vast majority of the respondents believe that Fico's policies have contributed towards a worsening of the situation in five of the eleven areas - namely, job opportunities, the position of the self-employed and small entrepreneurs, the situation in the health-care sector, the condition of public finances and the state debt, as well as corruption and cronyism. Around 40 percent of Slovaks feel that the country is stagnating in developing democracy, improving the living conditions of individuals and improving the relations between Roma and non-Roma.
