Presidential Election to Decide Between 15 Candidates

We can now say that fifteen individuals have put in their hat for the post of President of the Slovak Republic. Presidential candidacy requires support by 15 signatures of members of parliament, or a petition with signatures of 15,000 citizens.

Presidential candidacy was formally announced by our Prime Minister and SMER-SD Chairman Robert Fico, MP Radoslav Procházka, entrepreneur Andrej Kiska, actor and former cabinet minister Milan Kňažko, former chairman of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) Jan Čarnogurský, KDH presidential candidate Pavol Hrušovský who also has support of the opposition parties MOST-HID and SDKU-DS. The party SaS nominated Peter Osusky. Gyula Bárdos is a candidate of the Party of Hungarian Community (SMK). Others to announce their candidacy include Ľubica Blašková, Milan Melník (75 year old researcher), Jozef Behyl, who works mostly with the third sector, Leonid Chovanec (a pensioner from Kosice), Jozef Šimko (Mayor of Rimavská Sobota), heart surgeon Viliam Fischer, or Stanislav Martinček.
