Bratislava deserves the Government's attention, stated Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) after a Cabinet session on Wednesday at which ministers greenlighted a state subsidy worth €13 million for road repairs in the Slovak capital.
A €10 million subsidy for Bratislava should go to the City Council, €1 million to the borough of Old Town and the government approved the remaining €2 million in the form of a loan. The state also wants to address the critical situation concerning the historical building of the Slovak National Theatre on Hviezdoslavovo Square. For this, the state wants to find €980,000 in its budget for necessary repairs.
"It shows that the government and Bratislava are able to share a material and constructive relationship despite some political differences. We can work together to solve the problems of Bratislava and people of Bratislava," Bratislava's mayor Ivo Nesrovnal expressed his gratitude. Moreover, he is glad that thanks to state funding, the reconstruction of Bratislava's roads will continue.
The last time that the Cabinet greenlighted a subsidy for the Slovak capital was in December 2015, when the city was preparing for Slovakia's presidency of the Council of the EU.
