International Month of Photography begins

In November, Bratislava is again becoming the capital of photography in Central and Eastern Europe. Depicting street life as well as the life of rich and famous, the 27th year of the International Month of Photography festival will bring thirty photo exhibitions to venues all across the Slovak capital. The event opened on Tuesday, October 31, with exhibitions by two of the most famous foreign artists - the Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki and the American photographer Bruce Gilden.

"Bruce Gilden shows life in the streets of New York City. He draws attention to people who are so to say psychologically interesting", Václav Macek, the festival's director introduces the exhibition consisting of 70 black and white photos. Another highlight of the festival will be the photo exhibition by Lisl Steiner, the Austrian-American photographer, photojournalist, and documentary filmmaker, who at the age of 90 years will personally attend the opening of her exhibition in Bratislava.

"What's amazing about her work is, that despite photographing not very pleasant topics, she did it with her heart", says Branislav Štěpánek from the festival's organising team.

The Month of Photography festival will take place in Bratislava throughout the whole of November, with a number of accompanying events.
