White Crows for courage awarded

Four people received the prestigious White crow award for their socially responsible and courageous civic actions. The ceremony organised by the Fair play alliance and the Via Iuris organisation has taken place every year since 2008. According to the director of the Fair play alliance Zuzana Wienk, the award is an acknowledgement to those noble people around us who are willing to defend truth and justice.

“This year, the first award went to two teachers Otto Žarnaj and Vladimir Crmoman who have been continuously pointing out how money is being spent and wasted in the education system in Slovakia. One of them, Mr. Žarnaj even got fired for speaking publicly about the issue. The second laureate of the award is Marianna Vavrová who used to work in a social insurance company. She also lost her job after she questioned the insurance company’s behaviour which was in opposition to law. And the last award went to Katarina Simončičová who’s been fighting for years with developers cutting trees wherever they please.
The awards are meant to thank those people publically and support them. However, they also aim to draw attention to important issues and encourage other White Crows.
