Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kažimír did not rule out that next year’s budget will be still adjusted. He made the statement after the Cabinet’s session on Wednesday.
According to him, next year’ budget is aimed at fulfilling nominal goals and on getting Slovakia from the excessive budget deficit procedure. Early in the week the independent Budgetary Responsibility Council has warned that the budget poses some risks even if the set goal of achieving a public finance deficit of 3% this year is feasible. It criticized the fact that the budget proposal for the next three years depends mostly on temporary measures such as cuts to state officials' salaries as well as capital expenses, plus higher-than-expected dividends. The Finance Minister agrees with part of the Budgetary Responsibility Council’s assessment but it intends to dispute some comments. He expects better revenues that could be mirrored in the budget for next year. Kažimír finds it natural that his ministry’s priority is to improve the success rate of tax collection.
