Slovakia is celebrating two Crystal Globe awards from the 52nd edition of the Karlove Vary film festival, which ended in Karlove Vary, Czech republic last Saturday. The main award went to the movie Križiačik or Little Crusader. This middle age road movie, inspired by a poem by Jaroslav Vrchlický is a Czech-Italian-Slovak coproduction and was also supported by RTVS. Its director Václav Kadrnka, shared his feelings after receiving the honour.
"I am very happy that the movie stirs up emotions, big emotions. It has a large amount of intensity and that is the most I can wish for," said Kadrnka.
The second awarded movie carrying a Slovak mark is Čiara or the Line, which won the best direction. It is a Slovak-Ukrainian film inspired by real events portraying cigarette trafficking between these two countries.
"When making this film we wanted people to like it. We wanted the audience to like it, we wanted people at the festival to like it and we are glad it worked. It worked for the international media, it worked for people in the screening rooms. Therefore I believe we have nothing to be ashamed of and we have successfully promoted the Slovak movie industry," said director of the film Čiara, Peter Bebjak.
