Ammunition stolen from military stocks in Trenčín-Kubra

An unspecified kind of ammunition was stolen from the Slovak Armed Forces' stocks in Trenčín-Kubra, the Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš on Friday informed the Parliamentary Defence and Security Committee. "Law enforcement authorities have launched criminal proceedings for concealed arms trading and I provided them with all underlying documents and I leave the rest to the National Crime Agency," Gajdoš told journalists. When asked whether it would perhaps be better to tell the public what kind of ammunition went missing, Parliamentary Vice-chairman Andrej Hrnčiar, who was at the committee's meeting, said that no specific details will be presented before current inventory checks of ammunition stocks throughout Slovakia are concluded.

The former Defence minister and current parliamentary committee member Ľubomír Galko earlier stated that according to his information, six boxes containing hand grenades and one box with reactive anti-tank grenades had gone missing from the facility in Trenčín-Kubra. Nonetheless, after Friday's committee meeting, Galko said that the situation is even worse than he had thought. "The minister reported on steps that have been taken to ensure the better custody of ammunition and to make sure that such an extraordinary situation doesn't reoccur. I am satisfied with this. However, I am not happy about our failure to agree on providing information to the public," said Galko, adding that he is almost sure that the ammunition was stolen by someone who had access to the stocks.
