Slovakia welcomes initiatives on renewing trust in EU

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker presented a White Paper on the future of Europe in the European Parliament on Wednesday. The five "scenarios for Europe by 2025" are meant as food for thought for EU leaders ahead of the 60th anniversary of the EU summit in Rome on March 25. According to the Slovak Foreign Ministry, Slovakia welcomes every single initiative aimed at renewing people's trust and also the [proposed] boosting of cooperation. The scenarios presented by Juncker cover a range of possibilities, such as: carrying on as before; focusing on nothing beyond the single market; a scenario for "those who want to do more"; doing less more efficiently; and "doing much more together".

"At the moment we do not have a preferred scenario. We want to enter the opened discussion and hear out the member states and find a way to make the EU more acceptable and supported by all" stated Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the EU Commission in charge of the Energy Union. The White Book was first presented to MEPs, the majority of whom approve of this initiative.
