Holocaust Museum popular in its first year

Over 11,400 people visited the Holocaust Museum in Sereď, western Slovakia since its opening in January this year. A significant part of them were schoolchildren and students, who apart from sightseeing tour also participated in education programmes. The museum was created in facilities which served as a working and concentration camp in the past.

Each of the exposition is dedicated to specific topic. The Barrack 1 is dedicated to solving of the so-called 'Jewish question' from 1938 to 1945. Exposition in the Barrack 4 is dedicated to murdered Jews from Slovakia and it portrays the main concentration and extermination camps. The exposition also introduces those who saved Jews during the War. There is an education centre in the Barrack 5 where numerous events, seminars and discussions with the survivors of holocaust took place.

"Discussions with the survivors are very valuable and helpful in the education process as they introduce the youth to the historical event through personal experience," said Matej Baránek of the Holocaust Museum.
