Peter Sagan awarded for representing Slovakia

On Wednesday, road cyclist Peter Sagan became the first Slovak awarded with the newly established honorary title, Ambassador of the brand 'Good idea Slovakia'.

"I am very happy. I represent Slovakia and I am proud of it, but I think there are many things which need to be changed to have more proud people here. Let's hope only the good will continue in our country and more athletes, who also successfully represent Slovakia, will be awarded." said Sagan.

So far this year, Peter has had a very successful season. He became the best sprinter at Tour de France for the fifth consecutive time, he won the Tour of Flanders, the Gent-Wevelgem race, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec, competed in Mountain Cycling at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and collected many other successes. Peter is also the current leader of the UCI World Ranking and will most likely finish the season in the top position. Moreover, he is the current Slovak, European and World Champion. Sagan will try to defend this World Champion position in the middle of October in Qatar.

"The award is a part of a long term process of creating the country's brand. Its goal is to appreciate unique personalities or subjects and use their potential for Slovakia's presentation both at home and also abroad," wrote TASR. "Countries with a positive image have an undeniable advantage in the spheres of tourism and investment," explained the organizers of the project.
