Slovak road cyclist Peter Sagan finished sixth in the last stage of this year's edition of the Eneco tour of Benelux on Sunday, gaining the final third place in the General Classification. If Sagan would have been 61 seconds faster would be the overall winner. Thus, he ended behind Dutch Niki Terpstra and Belgian Oliver Naesen. However, Peter ended first in the points classification for sprinters, where he had an almost double score compared to the second cyclist, Dutch Dylan Groenewegen. Thanks to his performance at the Eneco Tour, Peter moves back to the first place of the UCI World Rankings and is 60 points ahead of Columbian climbing specialist Nairo Quintana. According to numerous cycling websites, Quintana is not expected to participate at the final competition of the season; Giro di Lombardia, which would leave Sagan ending the 2016 season as the number one cyclist in the world.
Sagan, who is the current European and World Champion, is not sure if he will try to defend the title of the world championship in the middle of October in Qatar. "I cannot tell you at the moment if I will compete in Qatar. I feel tired. It has been a long season and I am glad it is at the end. I have to think about it," said Sagan.
