Slovakia ranked 39th in the Economic Freedom Ratings of all world countries conducted by the Canadian Fraser Institute. The country scored 7.45 out of 10 points and improved its position by seven places compared to the last year. According to Martin Lindák of the F. A. Hayek Foundation, Slovakia ended in the top ten in the 'currency stability' also in the field of 'international trade freedom'. Compared to last year, the country improved in 'regulation'. However, in the more specific 'regulation of business' Slovakia ended 150th out of 159 countries. In spite of overall improvement, Slovakia scored worse than in 2015 in the fields of 'the size of state in its economy', 'justice' and also in 'the protection of the right to property'.
Thus, Slovakia could be compared to Panama, ranked 37 or Sweden ranked 38. The best country in the economic freedom is Hong Kong followed by Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland, Canada, Georgia, Ireland and Mauritius. The index consist of 42 partial indicators in five fields and is based on data which is available and comparable for all rated countries. The ranking was created by almost 100 non-governmental companies from all across the world united in the Economic Freedom Network.
