Slovak House RIO 2016 opens before the Olympics

On Thursday, one day before the start of the 2016 Summer Olympics, the Slovak president Andrej Kiska will open the Slovak hospitality house in Rio de Janeiro. The house, with a capacity of 120 people, is located in the main Olympic area - Barra de Tijuca.

"During the Olympic Games, it's a kind of small habit to organize hospitality houses. Slovakia has been participating in this small project since the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano,"

said Jozef Liba, Secretary General of the Slovak Olympic Committee, who also said what the Slovak house will offer to its visitors:

"We want to present typical Slovak cuisine, typical Slovak artwork, and as we are the presiding country of the EU Council, we will focus on presenting in this respect,."

The Slovak House RIO 2016 is located not far from the Czech hospitality house. First, the Czech President Miloš Zeman will come to the Slovak opening ceremony, and afterwards both heads of state will move to the Czech house, which will officially open two hours later. "In this manner, the Czechs and the Slovaks will address their past long term coexistence as one state. Moreover, in the Rio Olympic village they will reside in the same house with their offices only ten meters apart," states the Slovak Olympic Committee.
