Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan has won the green jersey as the best sprinter overall at Tour de France for the fifth time. Thus, Sagan is currently placed second in history behind German Erik Zabel, who won the green jersey 6 times. It the final stage on Sunday, the Tinkoff team member was just inches behind German Andre Greipel and finished second. Briton Chris Froome won the yellow jersey as the best rider in the general classification. Sagan's teammate Pole Rafal Majka won the polka dot jersey as the best climber. Another Briton, Adam Yates won the white jersey as the best rider in overall classification under 26 years of age.
Peter Sagan first competed in the Tour de France peloton in 2012. So far, he has turned all of his appearances into wins, taking home the green jersey and collecting 5 wins among sprinters in a row. This tour was the most successful for Sagan, because he also won the award for the most competitive rider, collected 3 stage wins and, as the first Slovak in history, wore a yellow jersey as overall leader at the beginning of the Tour.
Moreover, he signed a contract with the German team Bora during the tour. In his new team he will become the highest paid cyclist in the world with an annual income of €6 million. "I will relax and then there are the Olympic Games," said Sagan, describing his upcoming schedule. However, he chose not to compete in road cycling in Rio, as the track does not suit his style. Therefore, Peter decided on the mountain biking. "It will be something special, as I started my career on mountain bikes," said Sagan, the current world champion in road cycling who won the world mountain-biking championship as a junior.
