The European Commission has stopped Eurofunds which Slovakia drew for the 2007 - 2013 period, said Monika Hucáková, spokesperson of the Deputy Prime Minister for investment and Informatisation on Tuesday. This intervention concerns five fields: informatisation, healthcare, the Bratislava region, research and development, and Czech-Slovak cross border cooperation. The state hasn't given any explanation so far. "Individual directing bodiesare fully responsible for adopting corrective and preventive measures and communication with the European Commission regarding unblocking the drawing programs," stated Hucáková. So far, Slovakia has drawn 96.89% in all operation programs for the 2007-2013 period, representing €11.257 billion. The final level of drawn finances will be introduced to the public by September next year. As of July this year, Slovakia has drawn 1.59% of its available Eurofunds for the 2014-2020 period.
The intervention came only shortly after the EU resumed its financing food assistance program for Slovakia after three years. Slovakia was omitted from the program due to chaotic distribution, with tons of food being lost in 2011.
