Slovak athletes had a successful weekend. Canoeists in the C and K categories collected five medals at the world championship in Krakow this weekend, including two gold medals. Marko Mirgorodský became the world champion among juniors in C1 category and Jakub Grigar won gold in K1 among canoers under 23 years. Andrej Málek finished third in the same race and two silver medals were won in team disciplines.
Slovak tennis player Martin Kližan won the fifth ATP World Tour title in his career at the German Tennis Championship 2016 in Hamburg on Sunday. As the seventh seed of the tournament Kližan beat Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas, seeded third. "I didn't expect I could win this before the tournament started," said the Slovak who managed to win his very first tournament after a 10 week foot injury. Thanks to this win, Martin Kližan moved from 47th to the 28th place in the ATP Tour Ranking.
Cyclist Peter Sagan demonstrated a solid performance at Tour de France again this weekend. He managed to keep the green jersey as the best sprinter with a safe 62 point gap in front of the second placed Briton Mark Cavendish. In the Saturday stage of the Tour de France Peter Sagan came third. However, he wasn't expected to compete for the top positions on Sunday as the hilly stage did not suit his style.
