Slovak President Andrej Kiska confirmed at the NATO summit in Warsaw last weekend that Slovakia will help Ukraine to get rid of the consequences of armed conflict. Kiska emphasised that tens of thousands of Russian soldiers have been stationed near the borders of the Baltic States, creating a tense atmosphere among local people. Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák emphasised at the summit the need for dialogue between NATO and Russia.
In Warsaw, Slovakia committed to be in charge of a newly opened NATO Trust Fund concerning explosive ordnance disposal and demining in Ukraine. Andrej Kiska emphasised that Slovakia also trained people who are currently demining the Ukrainian territory. The Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry has contributed €50,000 to the fund; moreover, other countries also want to join the initiative.
