Lajčák’s candidacy to UN good advertising for Slovakia

On Wednesday, the Slovak government formally approved Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák as our candidate for the UN Secretary-general. "Eleven people are running for the position of UN Secretary-general. In this post you serve seven billion people on this planet. It means we are climbing up a steep hill," stated Miroslav Lajčák in reference to the challenge lying ahead of him. For his UN candidacy, Lajčák gained unanimous support from all top Slovak political leaders. "In the UN, all of us have an opportunity to lend a hand towards the process of making life on this planet better. I believe that Slovakia has something to say when it comes to UN policies," said Lajčák, adding that the Slovak foreign affairs policy is buttressed on principles such as respect for international law, dialogue and mutual respect - principles compatible with those of the UN. "As a candidate, I will promote the principles I believe in and to which I have dedicated my whole active life," concluded Miroslav Lajčák.

President Andrej Kiska highlighted how prestigious the position of the UN secretary-general is. "Managing 193 heads of states is a job for a very unique personality. I truly believe that Mr. Lajčák is a suitable candidate for this post," stated the Slovak President, emphasizing that Slovakia needs to praise its natives who play important roles in the world. "These people are a great advertisement for Slovakia and Miroslav Lajčák is definitely one of them,"added Kiska, noting that Foreign Minister Lajčák has been receiving great respect in the diplomatic community worldwide for a long time. Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko also expressed his support for the Foreign and European Affairs Minister. "Slovakia is sending a candidate of whom it is really proud," said Danko. The chief of Slovak diplomacy, Miroslav Lajčák expressed his appreciation for all the support from Slovakia.
