Peter Sagan on a postal stamp

Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan has finally received his own postage stamp. On Thursday, 21 April, the Slovak Post officially issued a stamp with a value of 1 euro, showing a smiling Sagan with a gold medal from last year's world championships. The Slovak Post printed 300 thousand of these stamps. The artist of the stamp is the illustrator Jozef Gertli - Danglár, for whom designing a postal stamp was first work of this kind:

"Not only is Peter very successful, because there are other successful athletes as well who are arrogant and machine-like, but he is not like them. He is very fun and pleasant, and I wanted to capture his personality on the stamp well," said Danglár at the issuing of the stamp in Žilina.

The decision to issue a stamp with the reigning cycling world champion might bring also higher revenues to the Slovak Post. General Director of the Slovak Post, Róbert Gálik:

"At the moment Peter Sagan resonates in Slovakia as a highly popular and closely followed figure. We hope that this stamp will attract especially young people, and therefore we may see a higher number of postcards and letters sent with this stamp."

The "Tourminator" now has a spot among other Slovak sporting legends like Ondrej Nepela and Vladimír Dzurilla, who also have their own postal stamps.
