The state purchase of SPP has received mixed reactions in Parliament.Opposition MP Igor Matovič (OLaNO) began reading Government documents related to the state's buying up of shares in Slovak gas utility SPP in Parliament for many hours. He said earlier on Tuesday that he's planning to engage in this 'exercise' all evening, until the 7am deadline. This is motivated by his efforts to extend the session until the daytime session on Wednesday ‘so that all those who have something to say on the Government plans to have their say when people are paying attention’.
According to Matovič, the governing Smer-SD party opts for a night-time session every time it wants to disregard controversial issues. During his reading of the materials, Matovič asked Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paška (Smer-SD) for a chair, but Paška refused to grant Matovič's request. Opposition MPs also got involved and pushed it until that 7am cut off. The purchase of SPP has created a call for a non-confidence vote in the Government of Robert Fico.
