A survey carried out among the managers of 166 European companies doing business in Slovakia concluded that they evaluate the economic prospects in Slovakia positively. One in four companies would like to expand its investments and workforce in Slovakia, read the survey commissioned by the Slovak-German Trade Chamber. Only 8 percent plan to cut their workforce, which is the best figure to be reported in a decade. Stephan Gebeshuber, business attaché of the Austrian Embassy in Slovakia and head of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Bratislava, pointed to another positive factor, noting that as many as 44 percent of companies expect their business situation to improve this year.
Many investors view the political constellation following the recent general election in Slovakia apprehensively. As many as 42 percent of firms see the biggest political risk in the formation of an unstable coalition of several political parties and in a strengthened influence of extremists. Forty-six percent of respondents even expect that political developments will be reflected negatively in their performance.
