Victims of Holocaust and Brussels Attacks commemorated

Officials from several embassies in Slovakia, including Israel's, as well as local authority officials and dozens of visitors gathered on Tuesday at the Holocaust Museum in Sereď (Trnava region) to pay tribute to victims of the Holocaust. A moment of silence was also dedicated to those who were killed in the Brussels terror attacks earlier yesterday. The commemorative event in Sereď was marking the first transport of Jews from Slovakia to Auschwitz, which took place in Poprad (Prešov region) on March 25, 1942. A total of 57 transports with almost 58,000 Jews were then organised within a few months. "We've gathered here to pay tribute to those who didn't return, with a hope that the painful history of these people will prevent anything similar from reappearing in the future. It particularly seems to be a relevant issue for these days. Polarisation of opinions plays into the hands of those who promote definite solutions. As if historical experience wasn't enough as a warning", said Sereď Mayor Martin Tomcanyi in a speech.
