If anyone had expressed before the Alpine Skiing World Cup season 2015/16 that Slovak would control the slalom competition, this presumption would have been seen as implausible. However, almost a third of the World Cup slalom races were won by Slovaks: Veronika Velez-Zuzulová winning twice, and Petra Vlhová coining one victory. This season was special for 31 year old Veronika Velez-Zuzulová, who besides winning 2 races in Flachau, placed on podium 6 times and, with a total of 626 points, she ended overall placing 2nd in the World Cup season rankings. After the last race of the season in St. Moritz, where she ended 2nd, Veronika commented on the race, as well as the past season:
"I felt the responsibility and that I have to put everything into it, otherwise it wouldn't end that well. This is the best season I've ever had and I am glad it has all ended like this."
For 20 year old Petra Vlhová, this season was great, as she clinched a spot among the elite group of skiers finishing 6th in the overall ranking. Good news for Slovak skiing fans is that both skiers look forward to the next season.
