President Andrej Kiska, over the course of Monday and Tuesday, will be holding meetings with the chairs of those parties elected to the National Council, except for Marian Kotleba, the party leader of right-extremist People's Party Our Slovakia. According to the president, the election results were a big surprise and left Slovakia in a complicated situation. However he hopes that all parties are aware of what message the citizens have sent in the elections. It is especially necessary to increase people's confidence in the state.
"I don't think that the values we politicians like to refer to are endangered. People just want to see them implemented into their daily lives."
President Andrej Kiska now wants to proceed systematically, step by step to try and find out about possible options.
"We have a complicated situation now, as the election created more dividing lines. Some cannot be overcome; moreover, it [working with those parties] wouldn't be right. Some will be difficult to overcome, although it will probably be necessary,"
stated the president, adding that on Tuesday he wants to give the mandate to form a government to Robert Fico, whose party Smer-SD won the parliamentary elections on Saturday, March 5th.
