Slovak athlete Emma Zapletalová has returned home after winning gold in the 400-metre hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Her victory made her the first Slovak European champion in athletics since the country became independent in 1993. Meanwhile, Slovak sprinter Ján Volko has been elected to the European Athletics Athletes’ Commission for the 2026-to-2030 term. The commission represents athletes within European Athletics and gives them a voice in decisions affecting the sport.
