Slovak canoe slalom athletes returned home on Monday from the World Championships in Oklahoma City with a gold medal and a bronze from team events. Zuzana Paňková, Emanuela Luknárová and Soňa Stanovská won the 3xC1 team title, while the Slovak women also claimed bronze in the 3xK1 event. Paňková narrowly missed out on an individual C1 medal after a late mistake in the final, finishing sixth. She said the error would help her improve in the future. Among the men, Marko Mirgorodský achieved Slovakia’s best result, finishing fourth in C1, just 53 hundredths of a second away from a medal.
