Italian Francesco Calzona will no longer coach Slovakia’s national team after failing to agree on a new contract with the Slovak Football Association. The 57-year-old had been in charge since August 2022, with his deal expiring at the end of March.
Under his leadership, Slovakia reached the Euro 2024 last 16, losing 2–1 to England after extra time. In World Cup 2026 qualifying, they finished second behind Germany but fell short in the play-offs after a 4–3 loss to Kosovo. A successor has yet to be named, with friendlies against Malta and Montenegro scheduled for June.
