Petra Vlhová Returns to Ski Slopes

Slovak alpine skier Petra Vlhová is set to return to the slopes this week after nearly two years of rehabilitation following two knee surgeries. She will begin her first on-snow training at the Stelvio glacier in Italy under her new head coach, Matej Gemza.

Vlhová’s team emphasizes that while this marks an important milestone, the hardest work is still ahead. She will need at least 50 quality training days on snow before considering competitive starts, with her focus firmly on the upcoming Olympic season.

Manager Richard Galovič says the team is optimistic, noting Vlhová is healthy, positive, and eager to train. The coaching staff has been reinforced with new experts in physiotherapy, conditioning, and ski service to ensure a careful and gradual return.

Vlhová herself is excited but measured, saying she’s now fully focused on her Olympic goals. The team stresses a step-by-step approach, prioritizing her health and proper preparation over rushing back to competition.
