Slovak Kayakers Take Fourth Place at Worlds

Slovak kayakers finished fourth in the team competition at the World Championships in water slalom in Penrith, Australia. The trio Jakub Grigar, Martin Halčin and Adam Gonšenica performed a touch-free ride and lost 2.05 seconds to the victorious France. Their compatriots were tenth.

The Slovaks tackled all the difficult sections of the course, including the final two gates, when one green gate came directly after the jump and then an upstream gate. However, it was in this section that they lost the most time, up to 2.68 seconds - in the third intermediate time they were 63 hundredths better than the French. The top three finishers were within one tenth of a second of each other.  For the Japanese winning silver was a sensational result. For the Land of the Rising Sun, this is the first ever medal at this event. The bronze medal went to Great Britain, which the Slovaks missed by 1.95 seconds.
