The first-ever Women’s Para Ice Hockey World Championship opened with a festive ceremony in Dolný Kubín on Monday evening. The event began at with a parade of athletes crossing the decorated Colonnade Bridge to Freedom Square. The ceremony featured performances and music programme for all ages. Matches will run from August 26 to 31 at the local ice arena, with six teams — Australia, Canada, Norway, USA, Great Britain, and a World Selection. Slovakia will be represented in the latter by forward Michaela Hozáková and defender Ema Mária Šimáková.
