Slovak kickboxer Lucia Cmárová added to her country’s medal tally at the World Games in Chengdu, China, winning silver in the K1 (under 60 kg) category. In the final, she lost 0:3 to Dutch fighter Valence Bickel, a repeat of last year’s European Championships in Athens, where Cmárová also came up short.
“I’m very happy right now, even though I really wanted gold. The final was a tough fight, and I showed what I have, even if my performance in the first two bouts wasn’t perfect. I had to earn this silver medal, and I hope the fans enjoyed the match. Their support means a lot. This medal is the cherry on top after the long preparation with my coaches. I’m thrilled to bring silver home. I think I handled most of the Dutch fighter’s attacks, though the strength difference was noticeable. In the six months since our last fight, I’ve improved a lot—Dutch coaches even said so. It wasn’t about luck; I just missed a tiny bit,” Cmárová told olympic.sk.
