England defeats Germany in UEFA U21 final in Bratislava

England claimed the UEFA U21 Championship title in Bratislava on Saturday, June 28, defeating Germany 3:2 in extra time. Germany initially led 2:0 before England equalised. Substitute Rowe scored the decisive goal in the 92nd minute.

This marks England’s fourth title at the tournament. Head coach Lee Kevin Carsley praised the Slovak organisers for their efforts:

“The training ground has been outstanding. We got involved with the local community from the first day we were there—there were 180 kids on our pitch playing football with the players. Obviously, the Premier League is very popular here too. A lot of young children knew a lot about our players.

The welcome we received was fantastic. The players were able to go out every afternoon, spend two or three hours having coffees and enjoying the city. So we’ve got a lot to be thankful for—to the city especially. And also in the U19s, four or five years ago, we won the EURO C here, so a lot of players have good memories of that as well.”

“So a new favourite country for you?” asked a Slovak sport journalist at the press conference following the final match in Bratislava. Lee Carsley responded:

“Yeah, definitely. Along with Georgia.”
