Chara elected to NHL hall of fame

Zdeno Chara was voted into the NHL hall of fame on Tuesday. He will be the fourth Slovak in the hall, joining Marian Hossa, Peter Stastny and Stan Mikita. Chara was elected in his first year of eligibility.

Chara played the most games by a defenseman in the history of the league, and seventh most among all players during his 25-year career. From 1997 to 2022 he played for the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals. In Boston, he was captain of the team that captured the Stanley cup in 2011. In the 2008-09 season, he won the Norris trophy as the league’s top defenseman, and was a six-time finalist for the award.
