Slovakia will host the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship from 11 to 28 June. Games will be held across the country with the final taking place at the National Football Stadium in Bratislava. Group matches will take place in Trnava, Dunajska Streda, Nitra, Trenčín, Žilina, Košice, and Prešov.
The tournament kicks off today (Wednesday, June 11) with the host team facing Spain in Bratislava at 18:00.
On Tuesday, Slovak coach Jaroslav Kentoš revealed that goalkeeper Ľubomír Belko will captain the team through the tournament. The coach said that his team will not have it easy against the favorites from Spain, but he believes that the home field advantage will help his players succeed.
The coach added: "We prepared the guys mentally and prepared for the fact that it would be sold out. But they have to be emotionally stable, both in negative and positive emotions. I believe that we will be able to do it with the help of the fans."
The Slovaks will also face Italy and Romania in the opening round of the tournament.
