Hockey World Championship 2025: Slovakia out of quarterfinal race

Slovakia’s hopes of reaching the quarterfinals at the 2025 IIHF World Championship ended after a decisive 1:5 loss to Latvia. A poor second period proved fatal, with the Slovak team conceding three goals. Coach Országh said the team lacked creativity. "We can't fault the boys when it comes to work ethic. They fought in every game, but if you don’t convert your chances and only manage one or at most two goals, the frustration grows. We lacked players who could step up in the key moments and score. We were missing more creativity, finishers, and also experience," acknowledged the 47-year-old Slovak coach. Slovakia’s last game is 20 May against Finland. The country is already qualified for the Olympic ice hockey tournament which will take place next year.
