Slovakia will open the IIHF World Championship against host Sweden on Friday. The Swedes are considered tournament favorites with the added advantage of playing on home ice. This marks the 14th World Championship encounter between the two teams, with Sweden leading the series. Slovakia’s last victory over Sweden was in 2006.
Assistant coach Peter Frühauf expressed confidence: “We believe in our team and our ability to compete with anyone.” Forward Matúš Sukeľ added, “We’re ready to build on our recent wins.”
The team held their first practice in Stockholm on Thursday, with forward Martin Faško-Rudáš saying, “It’s an honor to face such players, and we’ll give it our all.”
