This year, runners and fitness enthusiasts will gather in Galanta (Trnava region) for the 41st year of an event called 'The Galanta Liberation Run' on Saturday, April 12, in which children, adults, and pensioners can participate in various competition categories.
"The connection with historical events from the Second World War adds a special symbolic dimension to this event," said Galanta city spokesperson Dominika Orbanova. The town of Galanta was the first town in the modern-day Trnava region to be liberated on March 31, 1945.
"The main goal of the organisers is to encourage the general public to engage in sport, which is why the courses are designed to accommodate both elite athletes and recreational runners," added Orbanova.
There will be children's races ranging from 100 to 1,300 metres, depending on the children's ages. The health run will be 2,500 metres long, while the main Liberation Run will cover 10,000 metres. There will also be a relay race.
