The new school year has brought several changes to Slovakia, including the launch of the country’s biggest education reform in the past 20 years. What is behind the reform — and what will it mean in practice for pupils, teachers and schools? We hear from Education Minister Tomáš Drucker; Petra Fridrichová, curriculum co-author and Director of the Formal Education Support Department at the National Institute of Education and Youth (NIVaM); Eva Horníková, school principal and chairwoman of the Association of Primary Schools of Slovakia; Jarmila Javorková, president of the Slovak Chamber of Teachers; and Marcela Janová, principal of a school that took part in the reform’s pilot phase.
