The Rusyn minority is located mainly in the north-eastern part of today’s Slovak Republic. Their dominant faith is Greek Catholic; however, a significant part of the Rusyn population follows the Orthodox faith, particularly in the far north-east of Slovakia. That is why it may come as a surprise to learn that one of the founders of the Greek Catholic Church was born—and is buried—in Pruské, a village in present-day Slovakia, located some 15 kilometres from today’s Czech border.
